Salvation Army Announces Case Managed Long-term Assistance 25/06/2010

Nashville, TN - In our continuing effort to respond to the unprecedented issues and need for prompt response to the devastating direct impact that the "1000 Year" Flood has had on the community of Nashville, The Salvation Army has initiated and executed a case management program for flood victims that is currently providing long-term relief assistance. The Salvation Army is providing utility assistance, rent and mortgage assistance, household items such as small appliances and building materials. Most importantly, The Salvation Army is providing spiritual and emotional care to individuals and families to bring them hope for the future and the will to rebuild.

Major Rob Vincent, The Salvation Army Nashville Area Commander, explained, "The Salvation Army is already in the position to provide case managed long-term recovery due to our accessibility, connectivity with existing disaster relief activities, organizational capacity, and case management experience. With the generosity of folks in our community an Army was built to rise above the floods."

Long-term Recovery Case Management Available:

Immediate Needs - Clean-up kits, Personal Care kits, Food Boxes, Clothing, etc.
Utility Assistance for flood victims - Includes reconnect fees
Rent/Mortgage Assistance for flood victims - Includes relocation assistance, initial housing deposit, 1^st month rent, short-term housing while rebuilding a home
Household items/Building Materials -Includes basic building materials such as dry-wall and plywood (Building material assistance is only available to organizations or agencies assisting with the rebuild)
Spiritual and Emotional Care

Where to get Help:

Case management is available at the following Salvation Army Family Resource Center in Madison. Flood victims in need of additional assistance should contact United Way's 211 Hotline to find location closest to where they are currently residing. To apply individuals will be required to present proof of address, assistance from FEMA and proof of insurance. The Salvation Army Center below will provide case-managed assistance.

Anyone who needs immediate assistance (non-financial) is encouraged to stop by one of the below centers. The Salvation Army is offering food boxes, personal comfort kits (including toiletry) and hygiene items and cleaning kits. This is an ongoing relief effort.

Donation Dollars at Work:

The outpouring generosity and spirit of this community gave The Salvation Army the ability to serve 21,379 people that were displaced by the flood waters with spiritual and emotional care, warm meals, food boxes, personal care items, cleaning kits, water and clothing. The service of The Salvation Army was powered by staff, officers and 840 volunteers serving 4,006 volunteer hours.
To date, the total dollars that The Salvation Army has raised for flood assistance is approximately $1,200,000.
To date we have spent $668,716 on direct aide to meet immediate needs of individuals and families displaced by the floods which includes: clean-up kits, toiletry kits, food boxes and clothing.
The Salvation Army has begun case managed long-term flood relief which includes: utility assistance (including reconnect fees), rent/mortgage assistance (includes relocation assistance, initial housing deposit, 1st month rent, and short-term housing while rebuilding), household items (appliances), building materials for agencies assisting with the rebuild, and spiritual and emotional care. Case managers will be working with families displaced by the flood over the next 6-24 month period. Community demand will determine time-span.

You may also make a text donation by texting the word "FLOOD" to 90999 and a $10.00 donation will be made to the local Salvation Army.
