NASHVILLE, TENN - On Thursday, Nov. 24, The Salvation Army is expected to serve over 150 people a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixins' at the Dickerson Pike Center of Hope location between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided to our homeless friends by Tim Anderson and Judy Paster. Several volunteers will be on location to serve the meal. Shuttle service will be provided for our homeless neighbors to and from the center on Dickerson Pike.
Last weekend, The Salvation Army partnered with Metro Social Services and several other organizations including 18th Ave Family Enrichment Center, Martha O'Bryan Center, Metro Police Department, Metro Social Services, Nashville Black Police Association, The Pan-Hellenic Council of TSU, Save-A-Lot, The Tennessee Biker Education Association, Tennessee State University and Wayne Reed Childcare, to prepare and distribute over 1000 Thanksgiving Baskets that is estimated to feed some 8000 individuals this Thanksgiving holiday. Specifically, 200 families in Salvation Army programs received baskets that included a turkey, stuffing, green beans, corn, macaroni and cheese, yams, rolls, cranberry sauce, desserts and more...enough to feed a family of 8.
The National Salvation Army will kick-off its annual Red Kettle Campaign on Thanksgiving Day in Dallas at the Cowboys and Dolphins game. The half-time show will feature a performance by Enrique Iglesias, which will mark the start of the 120th anniversary of the Army's iconic Red Kettle Campaign. The campaign will run through Christmas Eve. The money raised in the red kettles helps support The Salvation Army programs and services year-round, including costs associated with our angel tree program.
