Released 8 July 2010
Nashville, TN - The Salvation Army has partnered with the United Way of Metropolitan Nashville to "Restore the Dream." As a lead United Way Family Resource Center agency, The Salvation Army has received "Restore the Dream" funding to put in place a case management program for flood victims. The Salvation Army hired case managers and set up an office from funding provided by United Way Restore the Dream, The Frist Foundation and The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee. Case management will include long-term housing assistance, utilities, relocation costs, rental assistance, building materials, appliance purchases and spiritual and emotional care.
The "Restore the Dream" fund which United Way re-activated specifically for flood recovery will be one source of funding for The Salvation Army's flood relief efforts in the communities of Madison, Hermitage and Donelson. Flood victims in need of assistance are encouraged to contact the United Way Family Resource Center closest to their current place of residence.
Major Steve Justice, The Salvation Army Nashville Incident Commander, explained, "The Salvation Army is in position to provide case managed long-term recovery assistance. Our center in Madison is very accessible and has the capacity to handle up to 100 cases per week. Over 50 long-term cases have already been opened since the center began its operations on July 1st. We have been connected with the needs of the community and have prior case management experience due to our year-round partnership with the United Way as a Family Resource Center. We are grateful for the support of the United Way, The Frist Foundation and The Community Foundation."
