Q: How does The Salvation Army sell my car?
A:
Once the title of your vehicle is transferred to The Salvation Army of Nashville, we partner with Colson's Auctions that hosts automobile auctions on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Q: How is my car's value determined?
A:
The value of your car is determined by the amount we are able to sell it at auction.  Starting bids are determined by the bidders.  There is no estimated selling price nor are there minimum selling prices.

Q: How do I report my car donation on my taxes?
A:
The Salvation Army is required by law to provide acknowledgement to the donor within 30 days of the sale stating the amount of gross proceeds.  You can claim up to $500 on your vehicle; of course unless it sells for more.  If your vehicle sells for more than $500, The Salvation Army is required to provide you with a 1098C within 30 days of sale.

Q: How long will it take to sell my car at the auction and for me to be notified of the sale price?
A:
Generally it take The Salvation Army 2-3 weeks to transfer the title out of your name to our organization.  Once that process is complete we turn the car over to our auction house.  The sale of your car ultimately depends on the interest of the bidders, however we generally see cars sold in 6-9 weeks.  We are happy to communicate with you through the entire process.

Q: Can I sell a car that isn't in titled in my name?
A:
We will need proof that you are now the Power of Attorney or Executor of the said estate.

Q: Can I sell a car that isn't running or needs tremendous work?
A:
Yes! In some cases if minor repair is needed, The Salvation Army will incurr the costs to make a minor repair.  If you car is beyond repair, we can still accept it and sell for parts.  We take cars with flat tires, no keys, body damage, etc. Give us a call to discuss.  Our only requirement is that a tow truck can easily access the vehicle.

Q: I am in need of a car myself, can I go to the auction?
A:
Yes! Colson's Auction House hosts auctions on the first and third Thursday of each month.  Please visit their site for more information by clicking here.  You can also call 615-292-6619 for more information.
