Mrs. Major Hazel Street

Mrs. Major Hazel (Otis) Street was promoted to Glory Oct. 31, 2006, from Pensacola, Fla., after several months of illness. The service celebrating her life was held at the

Atlanta Temple Corps with Major Gerald Street, Majors Osbourne and Marleine Mills and Major David Waite officiating. The interment was in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.

Hazel Ophelia Etheridge was born Aug. 17, 1919, in Saulston, N.C., to Willie Spicer and Bessie Mae Etheridge and was converted at the age of 19 at the Goldsboro, N.C., Corps. She entered training in Atlanta and was commissioned in May 1940. She assisted for the next three years in Winston-Salem, Wilson and Reidsville, N.C.

She was married to Captain Otis Street, a session-mate, on June 1, 1943, and they served as corps officers in West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida and Tennessee. After serving for 45 years as active officers, they entered honored retirement in July 1985 and made their home in Chattanooga, Tenn., where they continued their evangelistic service. Hazel's beloved Otis was promoted to Glory Oct. 28, 2005.

Hazel and Otis complimented each other in their united service, presenting the gospel of Jesus Christ in a zealous and forthright manner. They were known for their evangelistic fervor. Hazel was especially effective in the women's ministry, as well as youth and children's work.

She is survived by daughters Janet Street and June (Ed) Hicks; sons Ken (Carol) and Major Gerald (Teresa) Street; brother Billy (Chris) Etheridge; sister Hannah Jones; seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
