Association of Legal Administrators

Each year, this organization - led by committee chair Sadie McLeod - adopts 1,300 angels through approximately 40 different law firms throughout the Washington, D.C., area, as part of the Christmas Angel Tree program.


Bikes for the World

The territorial Youth Department is beginning a partnership with Bikes for the World to help get therapeutic tricycles to disabled children at The Salvation Army's Joytown School in Africa.

CBS Atlanta, UPS and Simon

Three of the Southern Territory's biggest Angel Tree partners are Atlanta companies: CBS (WUPA-TV), the United Parcel Service and Simon Property Group. CBS gives two weeks of live broadcast time to the project, UPS picks up toys from participating businesses and Simon provides Angel Tree locations at five of Atlanta's malls.



A $1,000,000 donation from CentiMark Corporation of Canonsburg, Pa., has been given to assist the victims of Hurricane Katrina. CentiMark is North America's largest commercial roofing contractor with 65 offices in the United States and Canada. CentiMark has been the preferred roofing contractor of The Salvation Army's Southern Territory for over 12 years.

Child Evangelism Fellowship

Child Evangelism Fellowship has been serving Wake County, N.C., for 20 years by sending volunteers to The Salvation Army Community Center in Raleigh. Weekly, volunteers share a Bible lesson and the gospel with children ranging in age from 5 to 12. CEF also organizes programs for the community center summer and fall outreaches.


Denny's is the first restaurant chain to partner with The Salvation Army. For three weeks this holiday season, participating restaurants will display Angel Trees for customers and employees who would like to take part in Angel Tree giving.


FEMA and Katrina Aid Today

Overseen by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Katrina Aid Today is a consortium of 25 disaster recovery case management agencies. The national consortium, which includes The Salvation Army, is funded by a $66-million grant to United Methodist Committee on Relief and has helped more than 1,400 case managers serve over 28,800 families recovering from Hurricane Katrina by assisting them with employment, housing, food, counseling and medical needs.



General Electric

For more than a year, 200 GE employees have volunteered an average of one and a half hours per day, four days a week, to tutor students at the Newburg Boys and Girls Club in Louisville, Ky. GE volunteers have also helped the club raise money and make improvements such as new carpeting, appliances, lighting and a refurbished gym floor.


Hope Force International

Since 2004, HFI has been conducting joint training sessions with The Salvation Army for its disaster volunteers. When the Army has a need for additional volunteers, it looks to HFI to provide them. Christie Sutton, EDS administrative services manager, said of HFI, "When we have volunteer needs that we cannot fill, they are always ready. They send us quality volunteers. They put people through rigorous training and ensure they have a strong quality of character. We can not only use them as field workers, but also in leadership command positions."

Kiwanis International

In 2003, The Salvation Army and Kiwanis began a partnership in disaster training, primarily through the Texas-Oklahoma District of Kiwanis International. Since then, 20 Kiwanians have taken the National Salvation Army Disaster Train-the-Trainer courses; ten of these 20 are now teaching these classes in their communities. Kiwanis now has 177 trained volunteers who act as reservists for The Salvation Army. Carlene Campbell, liaison between Kiwanis and the Army, said, "This was an opportunity to join an organization with the most volunteers in the world that is doing the most good in the world."



Louisville, Ky., area Kroger stores have been supporting The Salvation Army through the Food Angel Tree program since 1999. At 32 stores, Kroger sets up an Angel Tree with each angel representing a family in need. Customers can choose an angel and then add a $25 donation to their shopping bill, which provides a Kroger gift card to each family represented. Through the years, Kroger employees have helped at the food distribution site, have donated food for volunteers and have paid for advertising and printing costs for this annual program.


National Business Service Alliance

NBSA is a valuable resource for Salvation Army caseworkers nationwide. The organization provides skill certification to individuals impacted by Hurricane Katrina so that their current employment can be enhanced, or they can find employment that matches their skill base. NBSA operates a national database so that employers can fill positions with qualified employees. The strongest cities advertising this resource are in the Southern Territory - Atlanta and Houston, Texas - because they are where the highest numbers of Katrina survivors have resettled.


Operation Blessing

Together, The Salvation Army and Operation Blessing are offering free medical and dental care to residents of New Orleans, where only 30 percent of medical facilities have re-opened since Hurricane Katrina. The Salvation Army has committed to provide up to $1.5 million for the next year to fund the clinic, which is staffed by Operation Blessing.

Scherer Construction & Engineering, Inc.

This design/build, general contracting firm has been particularly instrumental in helping the Southern Territory with new buildings and renovations. Jim Crookston, president of the West Florida firm, helped transform the former St. Petersburg, Fla., Family Store into an ARC chapel, which enhances the quality of worship services at the Suncoast Area ARC. Maj. Charles Nowell, ARC administrator, said the renovation allowed beneficiaries to invite their family members to Sunday worship. Scherer's business relationship with the Army inspired Crookston to join the Advisory Council for the Suncoast Area ARC.

Wal-Mart / SAM's Club

Lee Scott, president and CEO of Wal-Mart, presented Major George Hood, National Community Relations and Development secretary, with a check for $1,000,000 on November 28, 2006, as part of the "Bells Across America" program in Bentonville, Ark. This event kicked off another 28-day season during which all Wal-Mart and SAM's Club stores nationwide allow kettles and invite customers to support the work of the Army.


This Atlanta television station sponsors The Salvation Army Can-a-thon, which has been going strong for 24 years. Last December, WXIA helped the Army collect over 174,800 cans, which were then distributed throughout the year to the six Army distribution centers in Metro Atlanta. The cans were used to fill 163,968 grocery orders for the needy.
