Salvation Army Disaster Assistance Centers Continue Operation
(Atlanta, October 9, 2009) As Georgia flood victims continue assessing and addressing damage to their homes and belongings, The Salvation Army's Four Disaster Assistance Centers continue to assist with food boxes, cleanup kits, toiletry kits, and food and clothing vouchers.
"As these individuals and families leave area shelters to return home, or to enter temporary homes, they are now discovering personal needs that had been overshadowed by their massive cleanup efforts," explains Major Jim Seiler, The Salvation Army Metro Atlanta Area Commander.
"Those needs include replacing permanently damaged clothing items, dishes, toiletries, children's toys, blankets, food and medical prescriptions."
According to Seiler, to date, The Salvation Army has distributed 15,012 prepared meals, 4612 Comfort/Hygiene Kits, 2000 cases of bottled water, 1613 Food Boxes, and 3012 cleanup kits to Georgia Flood victims.
Flood victims may visit the following Salvation Army Disaster Assistance Centers, M-F, 10am-3pm. Applicants must show a photo id and proof of residence. Only one applicant may apply per household. Location and hours also listed at www.salvationarmyatlanta.org.
