Ways to Give at Christmas
Thousands of families in the Greater Augusta area go without Christmas every year. The Salvation Army, working collaboratively with our community, provides these families with a wonderful Christmas. This year, we invite you to join us in continuing this tradition!
The Salvation Army is widely known for its outreach during the Christmas season. Since 1891, our iconic red kettles have been a familiar Salvation Army tradition. Money raised through these kettles provides much needed funding for The Salvation Army's free programs throughout the year, and we depend on local volunteers to ring bells at various kettle locations to encourage these donations.
Our kettle season begins with our Kettle Kick-Off on the 2nd Thursday in November and end by Christmas Eve. Individuals, churches, schools, businesses, or civic groups can sign up to ring for 4-hour shifts, whole days, or entire seasons.
In 2011, Volunteers rang the bells Monday through Friday from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturdays from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM. All you have to do is sign-up and show up at your chosen kettle location; we provide our volunteers with a kettle, stand, bells and aprons.
To sign up for a specific Bell Ringing shift contact the volunteer coordinator as early as October.
As Christmas nears, food, toys and stockings will fill the Salvation Army Christmas Warehouse to be distributed to thousands of local families in need. We need lots of volunteers to work various day and evening shifts. Come be one of Santa's Helpers! Volunteers play an integral part in sorting, organizing, bagging, and distributing these gifts.
Santa's Helpers can work one or more days, in full or part time shifts, with a group, or as an individual! Orientation will take place at the beginning of each shift.
To sign up for a specific Warehouse shift contact the volunteer coordinator as early as October.
The Angel Tree Program brings the joy of Christmas to children from families in need with the help of generous sponsors. Gifts purchased by sponsors are given by The Salvation Army to parents who may then experience the pride of providing gifts for their children and the treasure of sharing in their excitement.
You may choose to adopt an angel by picking up an angel tag at local Wal-Mart stores after Thanksgiving or by contacting The Salvation Army directly. You could also choose to fill a Christmas stocking for a child in need. Check with The Center of Hope Office for deadlines.
