Whether it’s embracing the
homeless, uplifting the abused or abandoned, training and mentoring the
disadvantaged, providing character building programs for youth, or assisting
the displaced or elderly, The Salvation Army's goal remains the same: serving the most people,

The Salvation Army Angel Tree Program
The Salvation Army Angel Tree program is well under way. Applications for Christmas assistance began on October 12 and completed Friday, October 30. "Now we are in the most challenging part of our Christmas Assistance campaign," states Major Karen Carter, Christmas Coordinator. "We need individuals, groups and business/civic organzation to step up and sponsor children the Christmas season."
The Angel Tree offers individuals and partnering
corporations to personalize a gift for a child adopting an
Angel and purchasing toys or clothing items for that individual. Angel
Tree Booths are set up and "manned" at area shopping centers and malls.
In addition, corporations may choose to decorate Christmas Trees at their place
of business with Angels for employees to retrieve. After choosing an angel and purchasing the
gifts, the angels are returned to the Angel Tree and distributed to the families
at The Salvation Army’s Christmas Cheer Center. Click for more information.

The Salvation Army Shoe In Program - Update
THANK YOU to all the volunteers who donated their time, talents and resources to make the 2009 Salvation Army Shoe In a great big success. This year's Shoe In benefited children in Georgetown Independent School District and surrounding communities including Jarrell, Liberty Hill, Florence, Round Rock and Pflugerville.
We especially like to thank our friends from The Caring Place in Georgetown who assisted in identifying children in need and we also want to thank our dear friends at First United Methodist Church - Georgetown for making the beautiful McKinney Center available for the shoe distribution.
778 children received brand new socks and New Balance running shoes that were facilitated through the efforts of Paul Carrozza of RUNTEX.

Hundreds of Homeless Attain Safe and Stable Housing in Last 12 Months
Seven hundred
eighty-eight homeless adults achieved safe exits from The Salvation Army's Austin
A secondary
activity toward that end is to help homeless adults improve their income,
usually a requirement for achieving housing success. The shelters' main program
for improving income is the employment program. In 2008, 589 adult shelter
residents improved their employment status.
Those numbers
include all those cases whose outcomes are known. Exit and employment status is
not known for all residents at their departure.
Among other major
statistics, the 371,800 meals provided is believed to be a local record.
