CAVES VALLEY GOLF CLUB FOUNDATION, INC. GRANTED THE SALVATION ARMY BOYS AND GIRLS CLUBS THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN AND PLAY GOLF

Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation, Inc., in Owings Mills MD, granted The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs $20,284 for the school year 2011-2012 for the golf program. This grant will provide 36 Boys and Girls Clubs members with the opportunity to learn and play golf. The program helps expose youth not only to the sport of golf, but to the culture and environment that the golf game represents. 12 kids from each of the 3 Boys and Girls clubs will participate, Franklin Square, Glen Burnie and Middle River. Each of the three Salvation Army Boys and Girls Clubs work collectively with families, schools, and outside agencies to provide Baltimore Area at-risk youth, ages 6 to 18, with fun educational, recreational, cultural, and technological experiences - helping them to build new friendships, learn new skills, and explore their own talents and strengths.

The Salvation Army is celebrating 131 years in Baltimore this year. The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the Universal Christian Church. The basic social services developed by founder William Booth in 1880, to provide food and shelter for the hungry and homeless, have remained an outward visible expression of the Army's strong religious principles. In addition, new programs that address contemporary needs have been established. Among these are disaster relief services, day care centers, summer camps, holiday assistance, emergency and transitional shelters, and alcohol and drug rehabilitation. 82 cents of every dollar spent is used to support those services in 5,000 communities nationwide.

The Caves Valley Golf Club Foundation, Inc. (formally known as the Caves Valley Scholars Foundation, Inc.) was organized in 1994 for both charitable and educational purposes to award educational scholarships to caddies working at Caves Valley Golf Club. Sources of support for the fund included seed money from members of the Baltimore business community and donations from members and their guests.
In 2001 the Foundation was expanded to include scholarship opportunities for caddies at other golf clubs in the Baltimore metropolitan area. In May of each year, golf clubs in the Baltimore region are contacted and announcements are made regarding the availability of the Caddie Scholarship Program.
The Foundation has recently expanded its initiative through partnerships with other organizations serving at-risk youth and has a similar focus of "making a difference for young people through the game of golf."
