BALTIMORE AREA SALVATION ARMY AWARDED GRANTS TO SEND DISADVANTAGED CHILDREN TO SUMMER CAMP
Thanks to two grants received by the Salvation Army, 46 underprivileged Baltimore children will be given the chance to join their peers at camp this summer.
The Children's Fresh Air Society Fund of the Baltimore Community Foundation awarded $3,096 to the Baltimore Area Command in the form of 6 "camperships" to the Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club Summer Day Camp in May. These scholarships are each equal to the amount of regular camp fees and tuition for one child. The Fresh Air Fund works to provide disadvantaged and disabled metropolitan Baltimore children the benefits of a summer camp experience.
In April, the Salvation Army Howard County Family Service Center received a grant for $8,500 from the Columbia Foundation to take 40 economically disadvantaged children between the ages of 7 and 12 to Camp Tomahawk in Hedgesville, W.Va. The mission of Camp Tomahawk is to teach children new skills and self-reliance through the teachings of trained counselors who understand their emotional needs and help them to mature.
