Released 20 July 2009
On June 29, the Baltimore Area Command of the Salvation Army received a
grant for $15,000 from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to support its
Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club program.
The Charitable Foundation is part of Bank of America's corporate
philanthropy initiative. Grants are awarded locally by the foundation to
organizations focused on strengthening neighborhoods and fostering community
leadership.
The programs at the Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club aim to enhance
the lives of at-risk youth between the ages of 6 and 18 in Baltimore City. The
club offers the children an opportunity to interact with others in a structured
and supervised environment. The goal of the Club's many programs is to prepare
children and teenagers for a successful transition into adulthood.
The Bank of America Charitable Foundation Grant will go toward funding
the after-school programs of the Franklin Square Boys and Girls Club. Programs
include a required hour of tutoring and homework help each day, activities
reinforcing the importance of responsibility to teenagers, and education
focusing on gang prevention.
