English as a Second Language

Surrounding The Salvation Army Howard County Service Center is an immigrant Low-Income Community that largely lacks understanding of the English language, therefore preventing their communication with essential resources within the community.  The Salvation Army Howard County Service Center is helping to decrease this problem by offering English as a Second Language courses.  ESL classes supplement and enhance opportunities for this population to overcome language barriers that stifle their participation in everyday activities, i.e. children’s schooling, community resources and employment opportunities.

ESL Classes:

Follow textbooks with structured guidelines and additional resources by using the TPR Method (Total Physical Response).

Two teachers per class depending on the number of students.  The expectation is twenty (20) adults learning Conversational English.
