Volunteer This is who our volunteers at The Salvation Army are. They live out the verse, "It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Our volunteers provide much needed assistance in a variety of areas from social services to office work to character building activities. If you have a skill or just the heart to serve, The Salvation Army has a place for you.
If you would like to volunteer, we need you and appreciate you.
The Salvation Army offers a variety of volunteer opportunities including:
Disaster Volunteers
Program and Service Volunteers
Christmas Volunteers
Advisory Boards and Councils
Women's Auxiliary
Volunteer with The Salvation Army and know your work is helping those who need it most.
Many people in our community have needs, and there are also many people with hands and hearts willing to help. If you are one of these, come to The Salvation Army and volunteer a few hours - or more...
At the Social Services Office: (The warehouse is located at 1490 N. 7th Street. It is open Monday - Friday, 9-5. We can use volunteers at any time during those hours.)
- Office Help - If you have a few hours to help with copying and filing, this would help our social services employees processing aid applications.
- Grocery Box Packers - We need volunteers to pack grocery boxes to distribute to those in need of food. This will involve some lifting.
- Clothing Sorters - We have received many donations of clothing and need to sort it by sizes and styles. Currently, it would help if we had one person specifically to sort shoes, socks and new underwear by sizes at our warehouse.
At the Corps (Community Center & Shelter): (The Corps is located at 2350 IH-10 between 7th and 11th streets. Office hours are Monday - Thursday, 9-5 and Friday, 9-3.)
- Computer Class instructor - We would like to hold evening classes for adults in our computer lab, but we need teachers. If you have computer experience and would like to help people increase their job skills, please call 896-2361 and speak with Capt. Dan Ford.
- Groundskeeper - We are next to the highway, so the front of our property needs regular upkeep and cleaning. If you have a couple of hours a month, either by yourself or with a group, we could use your help to pick up trash.
- Handy Man
- Painters
- Meal Servers - Would you like to help serve dinner at our shelter? Dinner is at 5 pm. Great for small groups - You don't have to cook, just say hello, smile and serve!
At the Boys & Girls Club:
- Tutors and mentors - Tutors help with homework during the After School program, and mentors serve as a positive role model in the children's lives.
- Sponsors for children in After School and Summer Day Camp programs
We also need help with a variety of other jobs. Let us know any special skills or experience you have.
To volunteer, call 896-2361 and let us know how you would like to help.
