THE SALVATION ARMY & TARGET TEAM UP FOR BACK TO SCHOOL SHOPPING!

July 17, 2013 - Easton, MD - More than two dozen students  took to the aisles of the Easton Target store to enjoy back-to-school shopping at no cost. PHOTOS.

"Target has given us the opportunity to shop with  30 kids  and they each got an $81 gift card from Target. They shopped for school supplies, but also clothes, shoes, anything of that nature," Major Lori Gilliam said.  The program is a partnership between  Target and The Salvation Army dating back to 2009.

"We select participants through our social services; The Salvation Army provides year-round assistance to individuals and families including food, clothing, utility and rental help. Families were selected who had a need in the past few months and have school-age children," Wilson said.

Learn how YOU CAN HELP The Salvation Army of the Mid-shore's Disaster Relief Campaign. More information here.

TODAY, The Salvation Army will serve the 22 people who walk in our doors with crisis intervention services like food, rent, utilies, prescirptions, food, clothing and shelter.

TONIGHT we are prepared to provide shelter to a maximum of 9 women, children and men.  Last year we accommodated 128 people with 1,162 nights of shelter and 1,913 meals.

TOMORROW we will open the office and start again as we have for 99 years.

Our Mission is to meet human need...we serve in the name of Christ in a uncomplicated but necessary way. The Salvation Army fulfills this mission by working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year!  The Salvation Army also seeks to further our ability to assist those in need by working together with other organizations, government agencies and churches through collaborative work and referrals.

All of this work that has been done, will be done today and tomorrow is thanks to the generous support of people just like you.  Because of your care and support, The Salvation Army is able to respond to need, wherever it may be and however it may manifest itself!
