The Salvation Army is dedicated to educating our community on the issues that affect our neighbors in Charlotte. Together we can make a lasting impact in fighting homelessness, providing guidance for at-risk youth, preserving dignity for low-income seniors, and offering a lifeline for the chemically dependent. Salvation Army officers, staff, and experienced volunteers are available to speak to your group on many of these challenges.

Topics

The Scope of The Salvation Army

  • Do you know what The Salvation Army does in Charlotte?
  • How you can get involved?
  • What the mission of The Salvation Army is?

Get an overview of The Salvation Army, the many programs we offer, and the people we serve.

Homelessness: The Center of Hope

On any given night The Salvation Army Center of Hope shelters over 300 homeless women and children, taking them off of Charlotte's streets and into a place of safety.  The shelter is a 202-bed facility located in uptown Charlotte.  In addition, the shelter has two satellite facilities and works with 21 churches to house women and children in the deep personal crisis of homelessness.

At-risk Youth: Boys & Girls Clubs

Since 1934 The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs have served Mecklenburg County by investing in the youth of our most vulnerable neighborhoods. Through our programming we inspire young people to reach their full potential as productive, responsible, and caring citizens.  More than 2,100 club members find positive role models and a safe place to grow in one of the seven Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Charlotte.

Senior Citizens: Booth Gardens Apartments

With rising costs for housing, health care, and transportation, many senior citizens find it difficult to get by on a limited income. Through Booth Gardens Apartments, with 132 apartment units, The Salvation Army provides seniors with a safe affordable place to call home.

Chemically Dependent: Adult Rehabilitation Center

Have you ever wondered what happens to your donations of clothing, furniture, and household goods? Through our Adult Rehabilitation Center, more than 100 men receive residential housing, work training, and individual therapy to overcome issues that contribute to substance abuse and homelessness.

Christmas Assistance

Each year The Salvation Army assists over 21,000 people in Mecklenburg and Union counties during the holidays, allowing them to allocate their resources to cover living expenses.

Disaster Relief: First Responders

The Salvation Army is a national first responder to a disaster, natural and otherwise.  Officers, staff, and volunteers are prepared to deploy quickly to provide emergency food, shelter, clothing, and spiritual comfort in time of great loss.

The Speaker's Bureau can combine these topics to fit the needs of your group.
