Our Clubs are in Crisis! Meet the Match today!
Our Boys & Girls Clubs are in crisis, and hundreds of Greater Charlotte's boys and girls clubs need your help.
You may have already heard on the news or in the Charlotte Observer about local United Way funding cuts. What you might not know is that those cuts are threatening some critical programs here in our community - our Boys & Girls Clubs in particular - and could leave several hundred children at risk.
These funding cuts place The Salvation Army with a budget shortfall of $330,000 - a deficit that must be resolved very quickly if we are to avoid closing programs.
If we are not able to raise the money within the next 60 days, we will be forced to close two, possibly three, Boys & Girls Clubs - cutting programming for up to 685 vulnerable young people. One of the clubs we may close need to close is within our Center of Hope, a homeless shelter were 45 of the 103 children in residence are members. Club activities provide stability in the children's lives, focusing them on homework and learning activities while their mothers are involved in job training or job searches. Losing that club won't just leave those boys and girls without a support system; it could undermine the progress of their families' journeys toward self-sufficiency.
In the midst of this, there is a blessing: An anonymous donor is offering a $100,000 matching grant challenge. That means your gift essentially will be DOUBLED - bringing us that much closed to holding off disaster for some of the least able to withstand it on their own.
We are grateful for the funds we have already received, and support the United Way's efforts to "right the ship" for their own organization. But without additional help, we simply will not be able to sustain our own programs.
The deadline to qualify for the $100,000 matching grant challenge is Thursday, September 10th!
