PRESS RELEASE - KIESTER, KIRTLEY Join Salvation Army Board             
Charlottesville, VA.  Mr. Phil Kiester, General Manager of Farmington Country Club, and Mr. Wally Kirtley, Principal Broker, Kirtley Realty Co., have joined the board of directors of the Charlottesville area Salvation Army

doing the most good“Both Phil and Wally are well respected business and civic leaders in Charlottesville and we are delighted they have agreed to serve on our board,” said Board Chair Susan Harris.

Mr. Keister has been General Manager of Farmington for 13 years.  He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the School of Hotel Administration at Cornell University.  He is also active in the Blue Ridge Mountains Rotary Club where he has served on its Board since 2005.  Mr. Kiester is also a National Director of the National Club Association and is a past President and Board member of the Virginia Chapter of Club Managers Association of America.

Mr. Kirtley is a graduate of the University of North Carolina.  He is a member of the Charlottesville Area Association of Realtors, as well as both the Virginia and the National Association of Realtors.  He is also past president of the Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association.  He has been active in both the Charlottesville and Lynchburg Chambers of Commerce.  In addition Mr. Kirtley has served on the Farmington board of directors, serving as its membership committee chairman.  He served in the US Army as a First Lieutenant from 1966-69.

The Salvation Army in Charlottesville provides emergency shelter and transitional housing for those in need as well as childcare and after school care for approximately 270 children annually.  The Army operates a soup kitchen serving nearly 65,000 meals annually to people in need. The Army also operates a large Thrift Store on Cherry Ave which provides significant funding for these and other services.

“The Army is best known for our Christmas kettles and bellringers but our services to the needy in the five county Central Virginia areas served by our Charlottesville Corps are extensive and operate 12 months a year.  Our volunteer board of directors is central to our success.  We welcome both Mr. Kiester and Mr. Kirtley to our outstanding board of directors.” Stated Captain Dan Matthews.

This is a real honor for me and I look forward to being a positive contributor to Charlottesville’s Salvation Army,” said new Board member, Roger Burchett.
 
The Advisory Board contains those volunteers with the most impact in the community.
