The Salvation Army's social services encompass a wide range of programs to help individuals and families overcome daunting obstacles.
The Salvation Army is one of the world's largest social services agencies, outside of government and those sponsored by the United Nations. It has grown to be so large because of its commitment to work with disadvantaged people and those discarded by society to improve their lives and to offer them hope of a better future.
The Salvation Army is a church, but wherever it is found, it is also active as a social services and relief agency. It has accepted this role not only because of the social conscience the Army inherited from its origins in Victorian England, but also in obedience to Christ's injunction to love one's neighbour.
