Arlington Christmas Volunteers Recognized at Volunteer Dinner 28/02/2012

Last Thursday, we recognized the many wonderful volunteers who helped with our red kettle campaign and Angel Tree program this past Christmas season. Numerous awards were presented at a special Doing the Most Good dinner held at the Arlington ISD Development Center.

The mayors of the Arlington/Mansfield area, Robert Cluck of Arlington, David Cook of Mansfield, Melody Paradise of Pantego,Michael Tedder of Dalworthington Gardens, and Brian Lankhorst of Kennedale-were recognized for their efforts during last year's "Mayoral Challenge." The challenge involves all five mayors competing to see who would raise the most amount of money for our red kettle campaign. With $13,305.72, Mayor Cluck of Arlington was declared the winner.

Captains Abby and Andy Miller of The Salvation Army in Arlington also recognized the Thomas family, who got back on their feet with The Salvation Army's assistance. When Darnell, the father, lost his job, the family became homeless. After staying at our family shelter in Arlington for six months, Darnell and his wife, Rose, found employment, secured an apartment and now live on their own again.

We're proud of each and every volunteer that participated during the Christmas season. Our work would not be possible without their dedication and effort. We're also grateful for the mayors who have shown their strong support towards The Salvation Army and its Christmas programs.
