The Salvation Army in Arlington held a volunteer appreciation dinner on Thursday evening, March 11, at First United Methodist Church in Arlington. The following groups were recognized for their volunteer efforts for The Salvation Army last year:

Captain Andy Miller, Corps Officer for The Salvation Army in Arlington, with Sharon and Judge Dixon Holman from Trinity United Methodist Church in Arlington. The church adopted a red kettle site for the entire season last November and December. The tremendous volunteer effort raised about $10,000 for The Salvation Army. The church also hosted an Onsite Angel Tree through which church members provided donated Christmas gifts for 400 individuals.

Advisory Council Chairman Dixon Holman and Captain Andy Miller (right) with two representatives from Grace Preparatory Academy. Students from the Academy volunteered as bell ringers for seven days before Christmas and raised $3,806.24.

Students from Holy Rosary Elementary School worked as bell ringers at four stores in South Arlington and raised almost $400 in one hour.

Olenjack's Grille was recognized for being the lead kettle sponsor in Arlington. The local restaurant sponsored five kettle locations. Bill Bowie from Olenjack's accepted the award from Captain Andy Miller and Dixon Holman.

Mansfield City Councilman, Darryl Haynes, accepted an award for Mansield Mayor David Cook for winning the Mayor's Challenge between Cook and Arlington Mayor, Dr. Robert Cluck. Each mayor manned a red kettle site to see who could raise the most money for The Salvation Army. Mayor Cook of Mansfield raised $5,863.89, barely edging out Mayor Cluck who raised $5,423.67.
