Hope and New Beginnings
The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center began in Dallas over 75 years ago on Ervay Street in downtown Dallas. We moved to our present location, on Harry Hines and Inwood, in 1976. The Dallas ARC is one of 23 ARC's in The Salvation Army's Southern Territory. The Center serves over 137 men who are here because of an addiction, spiritual or other problems and is available to all regardless of economic status, race, color or national origin.
Center residents come from all walks of life. Once a man applies to the Center, either through referral or on his own, and is accepted, he begins his journey back to becoming a useful and participating member of society. His program will consist of counseling, work therapy, recreational activities and most important, spiritual guidance.
The ARC is funded by the communities' donations of furniture, clothing, household items and vehicles of all types. Pick-up service is provided and donations are tax deductible.
Counseling
During the program each man is required to meet with his counselor, as well as attend a determined number of weekly activities, and Bible based recovery programs and other Center activities. Each individual has a choice of varied classes he can attend to meet this requirement.
Recreational Activities
Because structured leisure hours are important in assisting the man in recovery, organized sports and group outings provide productive ways to spend leisure time. Monthly Sobriety Award Dinners recognize a man's achievement in staying sober, a requirement for continuing in the program.
Family Counseling
The Dallas ARC provides a ministry to men and their families in a program that originated in this Center called FIRST, Families In Recovery Stay Together. This Program offers counseling and guidance for the family unit and they are encouraged to seek out advantages that are offered during his stay. Our Family Care Ministries helps to place the man in a Church and offers support after leaving our program.
Spiritual Counseling
Chapel Services, bible classes and spiritual retreats offer residents an opportunity to worship God and get their lives on track. Spiritual Values are built into every aspect of the rehabilitation process and is the heart of the Dallas ARC. Every effort is made to help the residents deal with the issues that contributed to their problems. It works... but only if the man is receptive to the program and is ready for a lifetime commitment of changing his life.
