NASCAR'S MORGAN SHEPHERD INVITES KIDS TO TOUR PIT ROW

Salvation Army program kids to tour pit row - #89 Racecar hood sports Red Shield Logo

Daytona Beach, Fla, (February 15,2011) - NASCAR's 69-year-old veteran driver Morgan Shepherd invited Kevante' Caldwell, 10, and Dijonae Smith, 12, to tour Pit Row with him and meet the crew and drivers during Saturday's race. The kids are members of the Volusia and Flagler Salvation Army's children programs, something Shepherd is passionate about. Additionally, The Salvation Army's Red Shield Logo will be seen zooming around the World's Most Famous Track this weekend, painted on Shepherd's #89 car hood as a donated sponsorship, calling his race car a "ministry on wheels".

Locals of Daytona, Kevante' and Dijonae, have always been NASCAR enthusiasts, but never had the opportunity to attend a race. Now their first race will be a VIP experience, with Shepherd being their tour guide, taking them through pit row and introducing them to NASCAR Champions. "I've seen every race, I know all the drivers and their stats, and I can't wait to go under the tunnel to experience it all," Kevante said.

"He's wanted to be a NASCAR driver since he first learned about stock car racing", said his grandmother, Renese Hogg.

"This is a real honor to represent The Salvation Army and give these kids an opportunity," said Shepherd. "The economy is tough right now. We're a small race team without a major sponsor and it's difficult to compete, but at least we have food, clothing and a roof over our head. There are millions in our country right now who have lost their jobs, their homes, and their spirit. We'll do the best we can to promote The Salvation Army, and educate people on what The Salvation Army really does to assist the poor and the hungry."
