The Salvation Army showcases the
good work of volunteers and community partners

The Salvation Army presented awards to outstanding supporters of the agency on March 18, 2008 at Broadway Palms Dinner Theatre. Army staff and friends gathered to honor and showcase volunteers and community partners who give of their time, talent and resources to help others.
In 2007, over 4,800 volunteers reinforced the ranks of The Army's small staff to give back to those in need in the community.
"Our dedicated volunteers are the backbone of our organization. Their passion and commitment allow us to 'do the most good' with every dollar people entrust to our mission of assisting people in crisis in Lee County," said Austruberto Flores III, Corps Officer for the Lee County Salvation Army.

What is "Meals with Compassion"?
The "Meals with Compassion" program is an expansion of our current evening meal program to our ‘dinner guests' providing extended hours to allow the potential to double the meal services to the homeless and working poor in central Lee County. This expansion is being developed as an effort to respond to the increased need as demonstrated by the public awareness of more and more homeless and working poor receiving meals in the city parks by groups trying to meet this gap in resources and services. This gap is an area local media has studied and covered working to educate our community to engage expanded support for services.
True to the Lee County's Salvation Army, collaboration with other agencies and shared resources encourages the spirit of real community. This program expansion stays true to our mission and encourages our motto "Making a difference, one life at a time". After many community meetings with city officials and faith-based groups serving people in our city parks, The Salvation Army made a commitment to cultivate the needed resources to double our evening meal capacity through expanded hours and increasing our outreach to the faith-based community to help recruit volunteers to assist in preparation and/or to serve meals and even donate the resources to cut the costs of the additional resources needed at this time.
