Majors Bruce and Betty Williams
Corps Officers & Pastors | The Salvation Army in Grafton was opened March 4, 1923 by Captain Clifford Miller. Once a thriving railroad town with a bustling economy, a decline in the railroading industry lead to a decrease in population, businesses and money flow. Although many business relocated or closed as a result of this waning economy, the Army, realizing the need of its presence more than ever, stayed true to its mission and remained in the Grafton area. Despite ever changing economic conditions, the Grafton Salvation Army has stood strong to its dedication to the salvation of souls the growing of disciples, and meeting human needs in the name of Christ for almost 80 years. The Grafton Corps serves the heart of Appalachia in Taylor, Barbour and Randolph Counties. |
The communities served by the Grafton Corps are among the most needy in West Virginia and benefit greatly from the continuing work of The Salvation Army. This includes services such as emergency assistance to families throughout the year (including help with food, utilities, prescription medicines, rent payments and many other miscellaneous needs), a clothing and furniture distribution center, and weekly rummage sales. Although financing the work of the Grafton Salvation Army has been difficult in recent years, it continues to be a work that is important and fruitful.
At the center of The Salvation Army's ministry in Grafton is its corps (church). The corps is healthy and lively, with active soldiers and excellent local leadership in all the church programming. The soldiers give generously of their time and money to further the ministry of The Salvation Army.
