Emerge is a recovery program that uses The Salvation Army's experience of traditional programming to encourage school attendance.  The Emerge Program was developed by The Salvation Army Greater New Orleans Area Command to provide children with positive incentives to learn, grow and live by the values that shape successful lives.  The New Orleans Hornets and the Audubon Nature Institute have joined in this effort to provide incentives to encourage kids to attend school.

Emerge exists as a platform for the growth of a continuous youth development plan and will focus on 6th, 7th and 8th grade students in the Recovery School District and their families.  Beginning August 6th, all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will be eligible for this program just by coming to school.  From that point on, students will have set benchmark dates to reach without having any unexcused absences.  Students who reach those benchmarks will be rewarded as follows:

October:  Special events at Audubon Zoo.  Two separate family passes will be given.  Audubon Emerge Family Pass.  Emerge student and three guests receive free admission to one of four.

November:  Emerge Families will receive a Thanksgiving Food Basket.

December:  Emerge students and their families will be invited to a Hornets Christmas Party with gifts from The Salvation Army.  Students will receive gifts up to $100 and a gift will be provided to their siblings.

 

Overall Accomplishment Rewards

January:  School with the highest overall attendance will receive a Hornets pep rally.

February:  Hornets will recognize students at various schools for perfect attendance.

March:  Easter Event for Emerge families.  Audubon Nature Institute to provide family pass to the Aquarium.

April:  School with the highest overall attendance will receive a free Audubon Nature Institute outreach vehicle "lunch time" visit.  Summer Sign Up event held at Zoo's Dominion Learning Center.  Emerge students sign up for The Salvation Army Emerge Summer Learning Camp and scholarships.

May: The Salvation Army Emerge Summer Program begins.  Emerge Summer Camp Scholarships Announced.  The Audubon Nature Institute will provide two Junior Keepers and two Aqua Kid spaces for qualified Emerge students that apply.

The school with the highest overall attendance will receive a free Audubon Nature Institute outreach Easter Event for Emerge families.  Hornets will recognize students at various schools for perfect attendance.  The school with the highest overall attendance will receive a Hornets pep rally.  Emerge students and their families will be invited to a Hornets Christmas Party with gifts from Emerge and families will receive a Thanksgiving Food Basket.  Emerge students will receive a $100 Wal Mart gift card to purchase school uniforms and supplies.

Hornets will recognize students at various schools for perfect attendance.  The school with the highest overall attendance will receive a Hornets pep rally.  Emerge students and their families will receive a Thanksgiving Food Basket; families will be invited to a Hornets Christmas party with gifts from Emerge.  Audubon Emerge Family Pass.  Emerge student and three guests receive free admission to one of four.
