Volunteers Devote Their Time and Talents to Helping Those in Need
Since the very beginning, volunteers have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Salvation Army officers to provide help for the poor and downtrodden and those affected by natural disasters. In fact, the name "The Salvation Army" came about in 1878 when William Booth adapted it from a phrase he read in a report that described the organization as a "volunteer army."
There are opportunities to help all throughout the year. Individuals and groups are needed to help with a variety of projects, including (but not limited to) serving meals to homeless individuals, serving as a coach for youth sports teams, mentoring and assisting low-income children with homework after school, providing free legal assistance as a volunteer attorney, securing donations of food, school supplies, fans, portable heaters, blankets and toys and clothes for Christmas.
Volunteers come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and ages, and The Salvation Army appreciates and welcomes them all.
Become a part of the army behind the Army by serving as a volunteer.
