SALVATION ARMY OFFICIALS SAY DONATIONS ARE DOWN
Salvation Army is reporting high demand for furniture and large appliances
With the unemployment rate in SC being higher than ever, with a 4.7 percentage point increase from last year, The Salvation Army seeks help.
Greenville, SC - CNN reports the unemployment rate in SC is higher than ever, with a 4.7 percentage point increase from last year. More and more Americans are arriving at the Greenville Salvation Army family (thrift) stores declaring they are struggling to make ends meet. Customers who have previously shopped main stream department stores find themselves depending on thrift store bargains out of necessity.
"The Salvation Army is unable to keep up with the demand as a result of more than a 30% decrease in donations of items such as furniture and large appliances. Demand for such items has increased tremendously. If we don't receive donations, we are unable to help those in need." Major Bobby Lancaster, Area Coordinator, states.
"The Salvation Army has always been known to serve those in need. We now find ourselves in need (of donations)." says Lancaster.
Donations go a long way...a tax write off for the donor, necessary affordable prices for individuals unable to pay department store prices and proceeds from the sale of these items to help restore lives of those individuals addicted to alcohol and drugs. Donations are a win, win situation.
Donations may be dropped off at any of our thrift stores or may be picked up by The Salvation Army. To arrange a pick up of your unwanted items, call our thrift store at 864-233-1627.
