Since 1981, as a Service Center for the three first years and as a Corps from the fourth year on, the Salvation Army has been active in Hernando County doing what it does best - serving people.
The beauty of the Suncoast combined with wonderful residents cannot hide a painful reality; there are people in need! That is where we (Officers, Soldiers, Volunteers, and Donors) band together to do our part - meet needs.
Why do we do it? Because we know the value of a smile; a smile on the face of a child when he or she receives a Christmas gift that without the work of the Salvation Army, would never receive; a smile on the face of an elderly person when visited by a Soldier or a Volunteer in one of the nursing homes in our community.
If you read our Brand Promise (DOING THE MOST GOOD®) with skepticism, we assure you that we are not bragging, but it is just the promise made by those who are committed with passion to do something for those who need it.
We will continue doing it; we are committed to building smiles; we know what needs to be done and we know why.
May God bless you all!
THANK YOU, HERNANDO COUNTY, FOR A WONDERFUL 2012 CHRISTMAS SEASON.
an increase of almost 20% over last year's fundraising, our 2012 Red Kettle Campaign was very successful. In the middle of the Campaign, an anonymous donor dropped a gold coin with an estimated value of $415.00 in
our Kettle at the Sam's Club on Cortez Blvd.
The Angel Tree Program was equally successful.
In general, the quality of the donations (toys and clothes) were outstanding! 565 children from 229 families received a bag with several toys and clothes. It
was a blessing for those who received the Angel Tree bags, those who donated, and for workers and volunteers who participated in the distribution.
Basket Distribution was also another opportunity to allow 287 families to have
a decent Thanksgiving dinner despite their current financial situation. As in
2011, we reached our goal of offering one whole frozen turkey to each registered family.
list of Donors, Sponsors, Helpers is huge. To all of them: THANK YOU!!!
