Sevier County Angel Tree Program in Desperate Need 07/12/2011

SEVIERVILLE, TENN. - December 7, 2011 - The Salvation Army has issued an urgent plea to the Sevier County community to help provide Christmas toys and clothing for nearly 800 children this year.  The program, which relies solely on community involvement, helps Sevier County families in need each Christmas.  The original deadline was Thursday, December 8, but to date, only half the names have been adopted so the deadline is being extended until Tuesday, December 13.

"Each angel represents a child in our community who needs help," explained Lt. Justin Caldwell, Salvation Army Corps Officer in Sevierville.  "Shoppers need only to take an angel from the tree.  Each angel has the clothing needs and information for the child on it so they can make the appropriate purchases."

Sevierville shoppers will find Salvation Army Angel Trees at the following area locations:

The Salvation Army has been serving East Tennesseans since 1899.  "Sevier County residents have always supported our work and we are confident that they will rise to the challenge again," said Caldwell.

Adopted Angels should be returned to the location where they were picked up or delivered to the Salvation Army's Christmas Distribution Center in Belz Outlet mall next to Pottery Barn.
