KNOXVILLE,
TENN. – November
9, 2012 – The Salvation Army will kick off its annual Red Kettle Campaign
with two
separate events next week.
The Salvation
Army’s Knoxville Area Command will
officially start its largest fund raiser of the year with an event on Monday,
November 12 at noon in the Chris Lofton Lounge at Pratt Pavilion on the UT
campus. The event will include remarks from UT men’s basketball Coach
Cuonzo
Martin, as well as Knoxville Area Commander, Major Albert Villafuerte. Coach
Martin will also make the ceremonial first donation to the Red
Kettles.
Major Villafuerte
emphasizes the importance of this
campaign and also the team effort needed to make it a success. “During tough times like these,
more and more
people are coming to us for help and it will take a community-wide effort to
make this campaign a success”, said Villafuerte. “This campaign will determine
our capacity to
serve, not only at Christmas time, but in the months to come.”
The organization
will kickoff the campaign in Blount County
on Wednesday, November 14, with a ceremony outside the Center for Calling and
Ministry on the campus of Maryville
College. The ceremony
will begin at 2:30 p.m. Special guests at this ceremony will include Mary
Leidig, Maryville
College’s Director of
Marketing and Maryville College President, Dr. Tom Bogart. Dr. Bogart will make
the ceremonial first donation for Blount
County. The Outpost will
also swear in two new Advisory Council members during the
ceremony.
Volunteers are still needed to ring
bells throughout the
