The Salvation Army's Knoxville Area Command began contacting hundreds of its food pantry clients regarding the recent voluntary recall of Sunland, Inc. peanut and almond butter products. The Salvation Army purchased 24 cases of peanut butter listed under the recall in early July from Second Harvest Food Bank. In addition, donated jars of recalled product were also received by The Salvation Army through Second Harvest Food Bank. Although the distributed items may not be tainted, the food pantry has discarded all remaining product as a precaution and are directing its clients to do the same.

"We are taking this matter very seriously," stated Knoxville Area Commander Major Albert Villafuerte. "The safety of our residents and clients are of utmost importance to us. We will err on the side of caution and take all necessary steps to maintain our safety standards."
