KNOXVILLE, TENN.
- March 5, 2013 - The
Salvation Army's Knoxville Area Command is proud to announce five new Advisory
Board members for 2013. The new board members bring a wide variety of skills,
expertise and experience to their new volunteer role with the
organization.
"This time of year is always bittersweet for The
Salvation Army as we see five great, long-term advocates of our mission,
including two past Chairs, step aside," said Area Commander Major Albert
Villafuerte. "However, we are also excited about the breadth of experience that
our new board members bring to The Salvation Army."
This year's new board members include Bruce Belden,
a retired businessman from the Detroit area, Ola Blackmon-McBride, Vice
President of the Knoxville Area Urban League, Roger Frazee, Vice President of
Regal Entertainment Group, Scott Ferry, owner of Ferry Construction Services,
and Captain Eve Thomas of the Knoxville Police Department.
Ola Blackmon-McBride brings a unique perspective to
her new role. She formerly served as the
Director of Programs for The Salvation Army for more than eighteen years.
"As a past employee, I know the work and I
believe in the work that The Salvation Army does," says Blackmon-McBride.
"I welcomed the opportunity to give back to
an organization that has done so much for our community."
The Salvation Army expressed gratitude for the
service of the five members that rotated off of the Advisory Board as well.
These include Mr. Dennis Upton (17 years), Mrs. Danni Varlan (14 years),
Captain Monty Houk (5 years), Mr. Tim Eichhorn (4 years), and Mrs. Connie
Bailey (2 years).
