We want to thank all our friends and supporters.  Without the hard work, encouragement, and financial support of many people in the Lynchburg area, this much-needed project would not be currently serving those in need.

We began occupying the building almost a year ago.  The Emergency Shelter occupancy is about 50 men plus women, children and families.

Much has been accomplished since this picture was taken.  Visit the site and see!

The Center of Hope enables The Salvation Army to:

  • Help more homeless people, increasing the previous shelter capacity from 28 beds to 57, and provide sufficient program space to get them back on their feet.
  • Enable husbands/fathers and older boys to stay with their homeless families. Currently, this is not possible in any area shelter.
  • Replace the old and inadequate Emergency Shelter with a well designed and efficient new shelter/social service facility that is handicap accessible.
  • Increase the number of children from low-income families who can be served by Noah's Ark Day Care Center by renovating the former Social Security Building, thus enabling the children's parents to work.
  • Purchase additional property and make needed renovations/repairs on existing facilities.

The Center of Hope Campaign has received over $5,000,000 in gifts and pledges that can be paid over five years for new and renovated facilities to better serve those in need from Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, Campbell and Nelson Counties. This is The Lynchburg Salvation Army's first capital campaign in 25 years.
