You are in: Disaster Relief
At The Salvation Army we understand that Need Knows No Season. Every year our pantries are stocked through local school drives enabling us to provide hot meals for the hundreds who stay in our shelters. When a Hurricane strikes, The Salvation Army is prepared to provide immediate aid and meals to those affected. As former Governor Jeb Bush stated during a visit to the Fort Lauderdale Area Command Center after Hurricane Wilma, "The Salvation Army is one of the greatest organizations in time of need that exists...They're always right there". | |
The Salvation Army responded quickly to assist the victims of Hurricane Wilma by sending out mobile units to many areas throughout Miami Dade and Broward County providing aid to over 400,000 residents without power and water. Each mobile canteen averaged about 1,000 hot meals per day feeding victims and assistance workers from Homestead to Coral Springs. Hundreds of volunteers worked long hours at feeding stations throughout South Florida. On average 15,000 meals per day were being served throughout South Florida. After eight Hurricanes within the past two years, resources have critically diminished. Food pantries have been decimated and supplies are running low. However, during these difficult times there has been an outpour of community support which allows us to continue the much needed services we provide to those in need. We appreciate your continued support. For Donations please call 1-800-SAL-ARMY, or mail in your contribution today (1907 NW 38th Street Miami, Florida 33142). |
