How do I donate to The Salvation Army?
Larger donations (estate, corporate or home clean-up) or items that can not be reasonable delivered because of their size or quantity may be picked up by calling The Salvation Army in your local community. For a schedule of when we will be in your area, click here.
Where can I find a Donation Center?
Donations of new and used items can be dropped off at 931 Bell Street or at our Thrift Stores location.
What types of donations do you accept?
We accept the following in good usable condition:
Clothing, Household items, Jewelry, Shoes, Books, Plates, Glass, Art, Clothing Accessories, Small and Large Appliance, Electronics, Shoes, Purses, Area Rugs, Pictures, Mattresses, Sofas, Chairs, Tables, Tools, Puzzles, Children's Toys, Cars, Baby items, Baby Toys, Baby Furniture, Baby strollers.
Donations are critical to our success!
Are there items you can not accept?
Yes. We are not able to accept any hazardous materials. Additionally, we are unable to accept:
- Anything that needs to be repaired
- Gas appliances
- Built in appliances
- Console stereos
- Water heaters
- Central air conditioning units
- Swing sets
- In ground basketball goals
- Large floor model copiers
- Building materials- lumber, plumbing fixtures, doors, etc
- Upright pianos- unless the are spinette or Baby Grandes
- Water beds
- Carpet if there is padding attached
- Old style metal desks
We accept delivery of new or used clothing and hospital beds.
Donated items should be clean and in good repair. If you have a question regarding the condition of your items to be donated, please call your local office to inquire. Items which can not be re-used because of damage or being heavily soiled are either recycle where possible or disposed of. Disposal cost for unwanted goods are high and take away from the funds raised to assist Salvation Army programs. Your help and consideration is appreciated.
What happens to my donation?
All donations are sorted and used for re-sale in one of our retail outlets (Thrift Stores) or provided on a free basis to those in need through our Social Services Offices. Items which are not suitable for re-distribution are recycled as much as possible.
All donations become the property of the Salvation Army. Every year thousand of items are taken (stolen) from Salvation Army donations bins. Stealing hurts us all, and the Salvation Army has ways to assist people in need. If you see an unauthorized person talking items from a donation bin, we would ask that you call your local authorities to report this activity.
Do you have a pick-up service?
Yes. In an effort to reduce our costs and continue to fund ongoing Salvation Army work, we would appreciate limiting the use of our pick-up service to larger items or larger quantities.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes, gifts-in-kind are tax deductible and a receipt will provided at the time of the donation.
