SALVATION ARMY RESPONDS TO SEVERE WEATHER IN GEORGIA
Early Sunday morning severe weather hit the central Georgia area leaving a path of destruction and cutting power to thousands. Salvation Army disaster teams responded immediately by setting up emergency feeding and hydration operations.
Canteens from Dublin, Vidalia and Carrollton responded to storm damaged areas in their counties. Currently the situation is being reviewed so further response needs can be addressed.
In Macon, The Salvation Army shelter and Corps are without power and water. Meals for those in the shelter are being provided by the Maconcanteen with additional support arriving today from Griffin. In addition, The Salvation Army thrift store was damaged.
The storms also impacted areas in Clayton County. The Red Shield Canteen from Atlanta responded to the Clayton County Incident Command Center upon the request of Clayton County EMS. The Jonesboro canteen is on standby if needed in Clayton county or central Georgia.
The Salvation Army will continue to serve until they are no longer needed. Contributions may be made by calling 1-800-SALARMY.
