THE SALVATION ARMY RESPONDS TO TORNADO IN SUFFOLK
Since the tornado struck in Suffolk, Virginia, The Salvation Army has already served over 150 victims.
At this time, the neighborhoods affected are not open to residents or any personnel, as the first responders are still in search and rescue. The canteens (mobile kitchens) from Hampton, Williamsburg, and Norfolk, VA are currently responding to the needs of the Suffolk Community.
Captains Lewis and Jacqulyn Reckline, Area Commanders, are assisting Majors Clatterbuck with the disaster relief operation. The hospital in Suffolk is at its maximum capacity with every room full and patients sleeping on cots in the hallways. Captains Reckline are developing counseling teams to send to the hospital.
Since the amount of damage is still being accessed, we currently have additional canteens and personnel on standby across the division in case additional support is needed. The Salvation Army is prepared to serve as long as they are needed.
