The Salvation Army Partners with Habitat for Humanity /Jimmy Carter Work Project
The Salvation Army to provide feeding services to volunteers for the week long build.
Jackson, Miss. (May 6, 2008) - The Salvation Army is proud to join Habitat for Humanity for the 25th annual Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project, which will run from May 11 to 18, 2008, in Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi. . The Army will be providing food services for Habitat volunteers and staff at construction and build sites throughout the week-long effort.
The Salvation Army will deploy nine Mobile feeding units from the Alabama-Louisiana-Mississippi Division. Over 140 staff and volunteers will be utilized to prepare and deliver food service to construction volunteers. This is the largest canteen deployment by the ALM Division since The Salvation Army's initial response to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in September 2005.
The Army will provide meal services at each Carter Project build site, as well as at the opening ceremonies for 2,500 people at The Salvation Army's Yankie Stadium in Biloxi on Sunday, May 11. In total, the Army plans to serve more than 44,500 meals for breakfast and lunch at more than 100 worksites during the weeklong build.
The Salvation Army will provide feeding support to the construction and rehabilitation of 60 houses and the framing of approximately 48 more in the Carter Project host cities of Biloxi, Gulfport and Pascagoula, MS. Other build sites will be spread out in towns and cities from Mobile, AL to New Orleans, LA.
