The Fran Cohen Youth Center Capital Campaign and Latchkey League
In late 2012, The Salvation Army announced exciting plans build a new Youth Center in East Naples to be able to provide hundreds of "latchkey" children with a safe, educational and fun place to go once the school day ends.
Studies show that there are thousands of Collier County children without access either due to finances or lack of available programs.
The Youth Center will fill a critical need for hundreds of middle school children who do not currently have access to programs after school.
Myra Janco Daniels, founder of the Philharmonic Center for the Arts and Chair of our Capital Campaign, became involved in the project because she sees the need to provide after-school activities in this area.
The Center will have computer labs, sports facilities, a creative arts school and a variety of workshop and classroom space.
The Youth Center now has a name with the April 22, 2013 news of a $2.2 million gift from Naples resident Janet Cohen.
With this donation, the largest single gift in our history, the Fran Cohen Youth Center took a giant step in the right direction. The Center is named in honor of Harvey and Janet Cohen's daughter, Fran, who died of breast cancer in 2010.
Fran loved children and would have believed in this cause. "I think that helping children to be successes in life is very important," said Mrs. Cohen. "If we don't have that, then we don't have much of anything."
We have many opportunities available as the Center is being renovated and constructed. Also, an Endowment Fund is being established to support future operating costs once construction is complete. Find out how you can be part of this exciting community center by contacting:
