Emergency Shelter
The Salvation Army North Central Brevard Corps "Red Shield Lodge" is a 14-bed dorm-style emergency shelter facility that temporarily houses men, women, and families overnight. Upon entrance, residents enjoy a balanced meal and beverages, are able to shower, use the laundry facilities, and sleep, at no cost. The shelter opens at 5p.m. each evening.
The Salvation Army provides each resident a hygiene kit filled with shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, and other items. Residents are encouraged to seek employment, and the daily labor van arrives each morning at the shelter to transport motivated individuals.
Case management is provided by the Social Services Department to identify and meet needs, establish a plan of service, and link to community partners. During nights with outdoor temperatures below 50 degrees, the program opens its doors as one of three Cold Night Shelters in Brevard County. When this occurs, bed space is temporarily increased and all persons sheltered are fed a dinner meal and breakfast the next morning.
Soup Kitchen
At 11:30am every day, The Salvation Army North/Central Brevard Corps offers the community a prepared, hot, balanced meal at no cost. An average of 95 people avail themselves of the lunch meal each day. Participants are able to interact with others, Salvation Army staff and volunteers during the meal. People that stop in for a meal are homeless, at-risk for homelessness, and/or the working poor.
