Disaster Volunteers

The Salvation Army Oklahoma City recognizes that volunteers are the backbone of any disaster relief operation. The best volunteers are trained volunteers. We offer training at our Annual Division Disaster Conference as well as through the State Emergency Management Training Program.

Places you can offer volunteer support include:

Canteen Volunteers - prepare and serve food

Command Post - communications, office support, transportation and public relations

Receiving and Distribution Warehouse - sorting and distributing goods, verifying victims, greeting.

For more information on how you can be a disaster volunteer, contact Ernie Potter at The Salvation Army Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area Command at 405-246-1100.

 Disaster Services

The Salvation Army has developed a reputation as being one of the lead disaster relief organizations in the United States.

Wherever and whenever a disaster stirkes, The Salvation Army is there. Our Disaster Emergency Response Teams are highly trained to help with counseling, social services and spiritual needs.

Our disaster services follow a three-phase approach to disaster. The first phase is the Relief Phase. This involves moving as quickly as possible to get equipment, facilities and experienced personnel in place for mass feeding and crisis and grief counseling as well as spiritual ministry.

The second phase is the Recovery Phase. The Salvation Army sets up receiving warehouses and distribution centers to distribute donations of food, water and other needed supplies. Emergency financial assistance and casework is also available.

The third phase is the Rebuilding Phase, which involves rolling up our sleeves and helping people rebuid their lives with personalized family services and emotional and spiritual support.disaster canteen
