Mission Statement
The Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary is organized to promote the
purposes of The Salvation Army in a local community. Its activities may
include special fund raising through approved projects, furnishing
volunteer workers, operations of canteens, distribution of food and
clothing, staffing of emergency shelters, leadership in group work,
visitation of hospital patients, and many other activities.
Membership
The membership consists of outstanding
non-Salvationist women in the community, who by their influence or
activity can further the work of the Army. A Salvation Army officer is
designated as an ex-officio member to act as liaison between The
Salvation Army and the auxiliary.
Structure
From the membership a president, vice
president, secretary and treasurer are elected as well as other
officers as may be authorized by resolution of the auxiliary.
Auxiliaries may adopt by-laws relating to local settings, made in
keeping with the national Manual of Advisory Organizations for the
Women's Auxiliary.
The members are encouraged to volunteer in
one or more of the organized committees in which they have interest.
Working closely together on projects fosters friendship and a great
deal of satisfaction as goals are accomplished and people are helped.

Orlando Women's Auxiliary
The Orlando
Women's Auxiliary was established in 2001 by Major Thelma Birmingham
with the assistance of Diane Holm. Since it's inception it has
championed the causes of homeless women and children throughout Central
Florida.
It's main
project and focus is The Salvation Army Orlando Women and Children's
Shelter. Over the past 7 years the women of the Auxiliary have been
responsible for major renovations in the shelter covering the dorm,
family rooms, kitchen and dining room. Some of the highlights
include sponsoring of new security system , new beds, new dining room
furniture, painting throughout and tile.
Besides it's
projects at the Women and Children's Shelter, the Auxiliary has been
responsible for: Back to School drives for local children, sponsorship
of Christmas Stockings and Angel Tree Clothing, assorted groups
parties in the shelter and assistance with the Orlando Area Command
Thanksgiving Day dinner "Helpings From The Heart".
To cover the
cost of projects the membership has pursued fundraising which has
included golf tournaments, fashion shows and a member authored
cookbook. To date the Auxiliary has raised over $100, 000 for various
projects and initiatives.
