The Salvation Army provides more than 40 programs in this community that are specifically designed to meet the most urgent needs of central Virginia. These programs are found within the Army's core programs including the ARC, Family and Emergency Services and The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club.
Programs of the Army include:
Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC):
Provides shelter, food, counseling and work for up to 81 men suffering from substance abuse. The men are provided with work therapy and are involved in counseling groups to help recover from their addictions.
The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club:
A safe-haven for youth in Church Hill, the Club is a collaboration between The Salvation Army and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America providing more than 500 members with warm meals, recreation and programs focused on character/leadership skills, education/career development, health/life skills, arts and morality/values enhancement.
Christmas Assistance:
The Army celebrates the holidays each year by providing gifts to children and individuals in need. Involving more than a dozen projects, programs, partnerships and fund-raising activities, the program provides toys, clothing, food, coats and shoes to families in need.

Emergency Disaster Services:
Provides compassion, food, clothing, medical supplies and more to victims and emergency workers of natural or manmade disaster through three ‘mobile kitchen' or ‘canteen' units.

Emergency Shelter Services:
Provides emergency shelter to up to 55 men, women and children. Also provides food, counseling, day care, job placement assistance and referrals in an effort to break the cycle of homelessness.
A men's shelter is also available in the tri-cities.
Family Services Programs:
Provides food, clothing and financial assistance for rent/mortgage and utility payments to those on the brink of homelessness and hunger.

Corps:
The worship centers of The Salvation Army in Central VA; the Corps provides spiritual guidance and outreach to those in need through music ministry, fellowship activities and more.
