New Staff Member at The Salvation Army of Central Virginia
Please join us in welcoming our newest staff member, Terry Hammond, M.S.W.
Terry will serve as The Salvation Army's Area Director of Social Services, and will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of the social services programs in Richmond and Petersburg, including The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Club, shelters and family services.
He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Social Work at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky, and his Masters Degree in Social Work, at The University of Kentucky in Lexington. He comes to the Central Virginia Salvation Army from his previous position at The Salvation Army Southern Territorial Headquarters where he served as the Assistant Territorial Director for Program.
Terry has worked for The Salvation Army in many capacities for more than 34 years in various Territories, Divisions and Commands and has served as Grants & Contracts Manager at the Divisional and Territorial levels.
During periods of work outside of the "Army", he's served as a county-wide Homeless Program Coordinator, as Executive Director of a non-profit social services organization, and has worked in management in the private sector. More recently, he served as National Director of The Salvation Army's Case Management Program for Katrina survivors.
Terry is specifically trained in Community Organization, Community Policing, Grantsmanship, Strategic Fund-raising, and Disaster Case Management.
His passion and focus has been in direct services program design and implementation, grant writing, grant administration and outcomes measurement. He has served as a consultant both within and without The Salvation Army, assisting new and/or struggling programs in re-focusing on their intended Mission or calling.
He is married, with two married daughters and three grandsons and enjoys camping, cooking, hiking and photography.
