The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club
Holds End of Summer Talent Show
In mid-August, The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club held its much anticipated talent show, featuring Club members enrolled in The Salvation Army's School of Performing Arts, as well as children from throughout the Church Hill community.
Club members began signing up to perform several weeks before the show and practiced during designated times at The Club, as well as practicing on their own time.
The talent show was kicked off by numerous dance teams and stomp groups, including a contemporary step team from an area church as well as a performance by The Club's step team.
Other performances included dance routines by several Club members and vocal performances, such as a rendition of "Happy Birthday."
The show also included a Michael Jackson dance competition, which may have very well been the highlight of the afternoon.
Prior to the show, countless Club members showed an interest in his music, and performing and dancing to his songs, that a special dance competition was arranged.
Six-year-old, Keon Harvey, was the winner of this special competition and received deafening applause for his rendition of the Michael Jackson hit, "Thriller."
Other acts included a drum performance, a magic show, and a dance presentation called "Teenage Love Affair."
"It was exciting to see a large crowd of Club members support their peers during this talent show," Matt Sims, Richmond Area Command's Music Director, said.
"We sincerely hope that this will become an annual end of summer celebration and that this show will highlight the success of the arts and music at The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club."
