Emergency Shelter Services:
The Salvation Army provides emergency housing for single men who are homeless at the shelter located at 835 Commerce Street in Petersburg. The emergency shelter houses 26 beds. Men participate in a case plan designed to help them become self-sufficient. This case plan varies with each individual, but includes finding and keeping a job, improving literacy and education, substance abuse prevention, interpersonal skills and budgeting.
The shelter also houses 22 beds for single men in the transitional housing program. These men have a more detailed case plan and can remain in the program for up to two years. The men are expected to maintain steady employment and to save money towards obtaining permanent housing.
In 2009-2010, 810 men stayed at the emergency shelter; and 27,278 meals were served.

The Center will also serve as a resource for these local governments and other non-profit agencies in the Tri-Cities where individuals may be referred and will receive the individualized attention and case management to meet their particular educational and resource needs.
