There are numerous volunteer opportunities available at The Salvation Army, the list below is a sampling of those.

Year round Opportunities:

  • Tutor and mentor youth at our Church Hill Boys & Girls Club.
  • Teach music at our School of Performing Arts. Instructors are needed for keyboard, percussion, brass, guitar and vocal lessons.
  • Teach drama, ballet, tap, hip hop, and interpretative dance at the School of Performing Arts
  • Facilitate and lead programs at the Boys & Girls Club to build self-esteem, develop character and teach life skills to youth.
  • Join our disaster emergency relief team.
  • Serve as a life skills instructor facilitating workshops on money management, anger management and conflict resolution.
  • Host a drive to collect non-perishable food, toiletries or school supplies.
  • Assist with data entry, mailings, and other administrative duties at our downtown Area Command offices.

 Holiday Opportunities:

  • Starting November 12, help holiday shoppers select an Angel to adopt at one of our Angel Tree stations in Richmond and Petersburg area shopping malls.
  • Assist in fundraising by ringing the bell or playing Christmas carols on a musical instrument at The Salvation Army kettle.
  • Bring your tool kit and setup children's bikes at the Christmas distribution center.
  • Get in the spirit by bringing your friends, co-workers or club members to the Christmas distribution center to sort angel tree bags and assist clients with the pickup up the Christmas presents.
  • Participate in our Angel Tree Program and provide Christmas gifts for an underprivileged child or senior or family of children.
  • Love to decorate? Adopt one of our Christmas displays in the distribution center and decorate it to enhance the holiday experience for our volunteers and clients.
  • Host a toy drive at your church, school or club to make an underprivileged child's Christmas more special and memorable.
