Homeless Shelter

  • To treat every person with dignity and compassion;
  • To demonstrate genuine interest in each individual;
  • To offer resources to truly be helpful in making a change in habits;
  • To counsel and to teach by example excellent life-principles - honesty, fairness, trust, reverence, kindness, integrity, charity, and service;
  • To offer solutions to meet basic human needs.

 Program Description:    

The Salvation Army Merkle Center of Hope is a 115 bed emergency shelter

  • Homless families with or with out children wing
  • single adult males area 
  • single adult females wing
  • vertan's wing

  Our emergency shelter can accommodate to 48 single adult males, 10 single adult females, and 4 families (each family having 5 children).

We also create another transitional shelter that can accommodate as many as needed in inclement weather.

 Some of our Basic Services Provided:

o Shelter (bed, shower, etc.)
o Food (three meals each day)
o Clothes (three clean changes)
o AA/GA/NA Counseling
o Legal Aid Counseling
o Life Skills Training
o GED Tutoring
o Access to Recovery Groups
o Employment Training
o Assistance helping homeless individuals aquire ID card, voter registration card, and/or  driver's license, which is required for employment
