June 1st is National Donut Day!
On Friday, June 1, Krispy Kreme will celebrate National Doughnut Day, which was established in 1938 to honor The Salvation Army's "Doughnut Girls," who served hot doughnuts and coffee to the troops in the trenches during World War I.
The day was originally used to raise funds and public awareness for The Salvation Army's social service programs during the Great Depression. Today, National Doughnut Day helps stock The Salvation Army's Food Pantry, which feeds hungry men, women & children 365 days a year!
